Barry Goldist

Barry Goldlist is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine (Geriatrics) at the University of Toronto, and an Honorary staff physician in the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital and the University Health Network.  He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, the American College of Physicians, the Canadian Geriatrics Society, and the American Geriatrics Society.  He has served as head of the Royal College’s specialty committee in geriatrics, and its exam committee.  He has received numerous awards, including the distinguished service award of the Canadian Geriatrics Society (of which he is a former president), has been the founding editor-in-chief of two journals and has over 150 publications of various types.  In 2015 the University of Toronto’s teaching award in geriatric medicine was re-named the Barry J. Goldlist award for excellence in clinical teaching.  He is a member of the Department of Medicine’s Academy of Master Clinicians, and in 2022 won the Michael Hutcheon Mentorship Award from the UHN/MSH department of medicine. Dr. Goldlist’s clinical activity has been in the field of geriatric medicine and the management of the chronic disorders of aging.  He is a founding member of the Chief Coroner of Ontario’s Geriatric and Long Term Care Committee.  As well as practicing geriatric medicine, Dr. Goldlist has taught and written extensively on the topic.  He has written chapters on geriatric medicine for both the first and third editions of the Oxford Textbook of Geriatric Medicine.
