Karen Hayes first stepped on stage at age 11 and has never looked back. Today, she is a dynamic
performer, musical director, composer and educator with over 20 years of experience teaching voice,
piano, guitar, songwriting, and performance to students of all ages. Her genuine love of music and
passion for teaching has guided her to create unique, engaging programs that motivate, inspire and
empower her students to thrive. Karen’s teaching philosophy emphasizes clarity, creativity, inclusivity,
individuality and, of course, fun!
As an expert in personalized learning, Karen customizes each student’s experience based on his or her
individual interests, strengths, goals, and learning style. She is also an internationally recognized
educator in sensory/postural wellness, ensuring that all her students learn safe singing and playing
techniques that allow for seamless artistic expression.
As a classically trained vocalist, Karen’s repertoire spans a broad range of genres, including jazz, soul,
pop, and musical theatre. She has appeared on award-winning recordings, performed at many notable
galas & fundraisers, and held ongoing musical residencies at top Toronto venues. As a composer, Karen’s
body of work includes over 300 original songs, giving her insight into writing structure, narrative, and
emotional expression. She prides herself on being an exceptional communicator, both on stage and in
the classroom, and loves teaching young performers how to captivate an audience.
