Tamari Russell

Music Production

Tamari Russell is a multi-hyphenated artist, with the titles of musician, producer, and audio engineer under his belt. Growing up in Brampton, Tamari was surrounded by music; he found himself singing in the choir and playing drums as early as 4 years old. Incredibly talented at such a young age, Tamari also taught himself to play the piano at the age of 13.

Tamari would go on to study music throughout his educational journey, eventually enrolling in York University’s Jazz program, making piano and vocal his instruments of choice. While honing in on his music theory knowledge and performance abilities, Tamari found himself more and more intrigued by digital music-making, an interest that had begun in his high school years.

Following his passion, he switched gears and enrolled in Trebas Institute’s Audio Engineering and Music Production program. Since graduating in 2018, Tamari has developed his career as a producer and audio engineer, working in many studios around the world, as well as with many artists, both at home and abroad. Tamari has also accumulated credits and recognition for his songwriting, production and engineering contributions to the music of artists such as Hip-Hop powerhouse The Sorority, R&B sensations Nicole Chambers and THEHONESTGUY, and Brazilian artists Pedro Alex and Natania Borges.

Tamari also works frequently with Toronto singer/songwriter pHoenix Pagliacci, and together, the two establish their studio and label Pagliacci Studios, specializing in post-audio production. In 2023, Tamari founded his organization Colourful Sounds to help BIPOC folk learn about live sound engineering and have hands-on experience that could be applied in the real world.

Throughout his career, his music production has landed him sync placements in TV series, such as “Sort Of” and “Robyn Hood”. He has also had the honour of having his song “Never Leavin’” selected to be the theme song for The 34th Annual Toronto 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival, better known as “Inside Out”. Tamari is extremely proficient in most digital audio workstations, his personal favourite being Ableton. He is a constant optimist with a love for Korean BBQ ribs and a good burger, and he is always eager to find new ways of making music accessible for all.
