Kathryn Johnston
Soprano
Praised with a voice that has “melted the hearts of many” (Kingston Snapd), Kathryn Rose Johnston is a passionate young soprano on the Canadian opera scene. A recent finalist with the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal, she worked with the Atelier faculty and performed in their Gala Talent 2022 this past October. Kathryn’s studies have taken her from a Bachelor of Music at the University of Toronto, across the country to Vancouver where she completed a Master of Music at the University of British Columbia. She has also attended the Halifax Summer Opera Festival and the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy (COSI). Coast to coast and even international performances, all from her hometown of Kingston, Ontario where she was welcomed as the soprano soloist in their 2022 performance of Handel’s Messiah with the Kingston Choral Society and members of the Kingston Symphony. Some of Kathryn’s recent operatic roles include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, First Wood Sprite in Rusalka (UBC Opera); Musetta in La bohème, Servilia in La clemenza di Tito (COSA Canada) and coming up this season she will perform Clorinda in La Cenerentola (COSA Canada) and Allegra in The Shoestring Magic Flute with Shoestring Opera, a company dedicated to introducing children to the magic of opera which is a cause close to Kathryn’s heart.
