Sora Sato-Mound


Violin

Sora Sato-Mound studies the violin on a full scholarship at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists in Toronto, Canada, under the tutelage of Mr. Atis Bankas. Sora was placed second in the 13–14-year-old category, and a recipient of the Award of Nicole Van Gils, Belgium Honorary Consul in Prague, for the best interpretation of a Belgian composer, at the 65th Kocian International Violin Competition in the Czech Republic. He was also a gold medalist at the Vienna International Music Competition in 2023, as well as a prize winner of Unionville Music Competition in 2019 and 2022, the Taylor Academy Concerto Competition in 2022, ENKOR International Violin Competition in 2022, and Oakville Chamber Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition in 2022. He has been featured at various music festivals including StirlingFest and Music Niagara since he was seven. Sora appeared in an episode of the TVO program, Backyard Beats as well as in episodes of Not-So-Late-Show of Music Niagara. He is scheduled to appear in an episode of CBC Kids in 2023. When he is not playing the violin, Sora enjoys composing, playing the piano, making pottery, cooking, and playing basketball with friends. He is currently a grade eight student in a gifted program at Winona Sr. Public School in Toronto, Canada.
