About The Artists

Hailed by La Scena Musicale as a rising star, Tiohtià:ke/Montréal-based pianist David Potvin is
known for playing that is “always controlled and beautiful” (Chris Wolf, Classic 107), and is
quickly establishing himself as one of Canada’s most exciting pianists. His imaginative programs
seamlessly combine standard repertoire and contemporary music, with a focus on Canadian
repertoire. His debut album, Catharsis, was nominated for classical album of the year by Music
Nova Scotia, and its performances were described by Gramophone magazine as “distinctive and
highly accomplished.” David’s playing has been broadcast on radio stations nationally, including
on the CBC and Radio-Canada’s ici musique.
As the winner of the 45 th Eckhardt-Gramatté competition, David went on a recital tour
across Canada in the fall of 2022. Other concert highlights include a tour of the Atlantic
provinces with Debut Atlantic, American premieres of Canadian music performed at the
University of Arkansas, the premiere a new work by Kalaisan Kalaichelvan at the Banff Centre,
recitals at the Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg, the Regina Musical Club, Under The Spire
music festival, the Bathurst Chamber Music Festival and Scotia Festival of Music, and
collaborations with Martin Beaver and Susan Hoeppner.
David received his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Toronto in fall of 2020,
where he studied with Marietta Orlov and won the DMA recital competition. In his spare time,
David enjoys watching soccer, cooking, exploring Montréal, and trying to keep up with his
toddler.
