About The Artists
Daniel Tselyakov has garnered acclaim for the sensitivity and depth of his interpretations and the rare emotional intensity, bold energy, and virtuosity he brings to his performances. Natasha Gauthier of Artsfile described him as “one of several young musicians in a deep pipeline of keyboard talent coming out of Canada.” His musical journey began within a family deeply rooted in music; he started his piano studies at the age of five under the guidance of his father, the renowned Canadian pianist Alexander Tselyakov. Additionally, he received instruction from Aster Lai and his mother, Alla Turbanova. By the age of 12, he had performed Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 as a soloist with the Penderecki String Quartet.
He has since completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the Oberlin Conservatory with Angela Cheng and a Master of Music degree with pianist Jimmy Brière at the Université de Montréal. He also holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with Dr. Ning Lu from the University of Utah, USA, where he was also teaching. Daniel has won numerous scholarships, trophies and awards, including top prizes in the Utah MTNA competition, International Livorno Piano Competition ( Italy), McLellan Competition, Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg Scholarship Competition, full scholarship to the Art of Piano and Piano Texas academy, the National Canadian Music Competition, the San Jose International Piano Competition ( USA), and many more. He was the youngest musician ever to be invited as a guest artist with the prestigious Virtuosi Concert Series.
Daniel has appeared as a soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Sinfonietta, and the San Luis Potosi Symphony Orchestra Mexico. In April 2014, he made his debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He has performed in festivals such as the Music and Beyond, Ottawa Chamber Festival, Perry Sound Festival, Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival, Agassiz Chamber Music Festival, Texas International Festival, and Gijon International Piano (Spain) Festival. In Europe, he has given solo recitals in Italy, France, and Spain. As a chamber musician, he has shared the stage with James Ehnes, violin; Angela Chen, piano; Jamie Parker, piano; Alexander Tselyakov, piano; Rolston Quartets, Borealis String Quartet and Penderecki String Quartet, to name a few.
Daniel Tselyakov is presently the co-Artistic Director of the Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival Canada.
