Alice Ackerman & Jacob River Milnes - In Concert

About The Artists
Alice Ackerman is a Montreal-based jazz and rockabilly singer born and raised in
Toronto, Ontario. She began her music studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music, studying
under singer Tina Torlone, and pianists Galia Shaked and Maria Case. While she initially
pursued her music education in classical fundamentals, in 2020 she transferred to the Concordia
University Jazz Studies program where she has completed her degree in Jazz Voice Performance.
Here she began her vocal studies under Juno award winning singer Kim Richerdson.
Additionally, she has performed all over the country including touring and recording with
Grammy nominated project Yiddish Glory in 2022.
She is most well known for her rich voice and character performance, reflecting the
golden age of Hollywood. Mixing the iconic vintage Hollywood sounds and image with
rockabilly styles is what makes her performances shine. Alice brings storytelling and a unique
sound to a modern stage, and takes pride in creating something new while still respecting the
traditions and heritage of jazz and rockabilly music.
Jacob River Milnes is a Montreal based Americana singer/songwriter originally from
rural Quebec. He has been on the rise in recent years, and has studied under the mentorship of
esteemed Canadian songwriters such as Ariane Moffatt and Ada Lea.
In 2024, Milnes brought his roots-driven sound to the CityFolk Festival in Ottawa,
opening for Canadian icon Fred Eaglesmith, putting on a show that was hailed by local news
such as the CBC.
Jacob is known for his guitar playing, unique voice, and powerful songwriting. He is
dedicated to a musical tradition which values poetic lyrics and honky tonk guitars.
