Course Goals:
This scene study course will introduce participants to the acting and rehearsal techniques of
both Declan Donnellan (The Actor and the Target) and Katie Mitchell (The Director’s Craft),
and provide an opportunity to apply these techniques to a short scene selected from one of
Anton Chekhov’s major plays - The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters & The Cherry Orchard.
Both Donellan and Mitchell are contemporary interpreters of the work of Konstantin
Stanislavsky, and have integrated and adapted his theories into their own processes. Over
four weeks, you’ll gain an understanding of their ideas and theories and how to practically
apply this knowledge to the analysis and interpretation of a scene and characters.
